IWR developing a Sensitive Areas Identification System

The Institute of Water Research is working with the Natural Resources Conservation Service to develop a “Sensitive Areas Identification System” (SAIS). This online system can be used by producers to assist in identifying ecologically sensitive areas that may be prone to soil erosion by wind or water, leaching of nutrients, or other risk factors. The goal of the system is to improve water quality by connecting producers and NRCS staff to address these sensitive areas through cost share and best management strategies. The system is in very early development. IWR is in the process of conducting user need evaluation meetings. A prototype version of the system will be developed in spring 2016. Stay tuned for more information.
