IWR staff will be presenting on Thursday, May 18, as part of the following session: Lessons from the frontiers in science for nutrient reduction from agriculture in the WLEB

Producers and partners of agriculture are working with scientists to find solutions to agricultural runoff to the Great Lakes. The session will highlight interdisciplinary, community-engaged research aimed at optimizing and accelerating implementation of conservation programs such as nutrient management, subsurface application, cover crops, modelling, peer-to-peer learning networks, transformative learning experiences, citizen science monitoring efforts, edge-of-field monitoring, social norms, and alternative economic incentive structures. The session will also highlight the transdisciplinary skills that can help researchers more effectively engage in rural communities. Each presentation will touch on both failures and successes. Attendees will also be invited to partner with session leaders on mini-projects to try out what they’ve learned back home in their watersheds.
